How to Perform a User Acceptance Test (UAT)

A User Acceptance Test is an evaluation given to a piece of software to make sure that it meets the goals set for it during the design and programming phases of its development. Performing a UAT is an important part of software development because it ensures that the finished program meets the needs of its intended users. A UAT is typically performed during the final stage of development, when the software is tested as a whole.

Instructions

    • 1

Establish criteria for the user acceptance test. Determine the objectives of the test such as the specific design goals that the program should meet and how the program operates under select real-world conditions.

    • 2

Create a logistical plan for the UAT. This plan should define key points such as the testing method used for the UAT, how the test objectives should be met or attempted during the course of testing and what program features or activities will be the specific focus of the current testing cycle.

    • 3

Write a script to base the UAT off of. This script should include specific information on the actions that are to be performed during the test, the expected results of these actions and any special procedures or requirements for testers once the testing cycle begins.

    • 4

Create the actual test worksheet for UAT testers, using the script as a guide. Make sure that the worksheet includes any information that the testers need to know during the test such as the actions they are to perform and any passwords or product keys that may be required during their use of the software. Do not include information regarding your expectations of the test results as this could result in tester bias. Make sure that the test worksheets contain space for testers to write thorough descriptions or additional information as needed.

    • 5

Recruit testers either from within your company or from pools of potential end users. In an ideal situation, you should include both types of testers so that your testing groups have a mix of experience and inexperience with the software, though this is not necessary. If recruiting from outside of the company, make sure that any testers sign non-disclosure agreements to keep their testing experiences confidential.

    • 6

Allow testers to use the software, answering test questions based on their experiences. The testers will follow the instructions of the test, performing the required actions and reporting the results.

    • 7

Evaluate the test results after each testing cycle has ended, comparing the responses of your testers to the script you created previously. If the results reached by the test groups are not consistent with your expected results, consider the possible reasons and make corrections or other adjustments to the software if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you wish for your UAT cycles to account for real-world conditions in addition to controlled conditions, set up additional test groups who work from a different test worksheet. The secondary worksheet should not contain the same strictly defined actions as your primary test worksheet, allowing the testers to have more control over their use of the program and creating a closer approximation to how the software will behave when used by a standard consumer.

What is UAT ?

What is User Acceptance Testing?

Author : Exforsys Inc.

Introduction:

This article attempts to explain the process of User Acceptance Testing.

Once the application is ready to be released the crucial step is User Acceptance Testing.

In this step a group representing a cross section of end users tests the application.
The user acceptance testing is done using real world scenarios and perceptions relevant to the end users.

What is User Acceptance Testing?

User Acceptance Testing is often the final step before rolling out the application.

Usually the end users who will be using the applications test the application before ‘accepting’ the application.

This type of testing gives the end users the confidence that the application being delivered to them meets their requirements.

This testing also helps nail bugs related to usability of the application.

User Acceptance Testing – Prerequisites:

Before the User Acceptance testing can be done the application is fully developed.
Various levels of testing (Unit, Integration and System) are already completed before User Acceptance Testing is done. As various levels of testing have been completed most of the technical bugs have already been fixed before UAT.

User Acceptance Testing – What to Test?

To ensure an effective User Acceptance Testing Test cases are created.
These Test cases can be created using various use cases identified during the Requirements definition stage.
The Test cases ensure proper coverage of all the scenarios during testing.

During this type of testing the specific focus is the exact real world usage of the application. The Testing is done in an environment that simulates the production environment.
The Test cases are written using real world scenarios for the application

User Acceptance Testing – How to Test?

The user acceptance testing is usually a black box type of testing. In other words, the focus is on the functionality and the usability of the application rather than the technical aspects. It is generally assumed that the application would have already undergone Unit, Integration and System Level Testing.

However, it is useful if the User acceptance Testing is carried out in an environment that closely resembles the real world or production environment.

The steps taken for User Acceptance Testing typically involve one or more of the following:
…….1) User Acceptance Test (UAT) Planning
…….2) Designing UA Test Cases
…….3) Selecting a Team that would execute the (UAT) Test Cases
…….4) Executing Test Cases
…….5) Documenting the Defects found during UAT
…….6) Resolving the issues/Bug Fixing
…….7) Sign Off

User Acceptance Test (UAT) Planning:
As always the Planning Process is the most important of all the steps. This affects the effectiveness of the Testing Process. The Planning process outlines the User Acceptance Testing Strategy. It also describes the key focus areas, entry and exit criteria.

Designing UA Test Cases:
The User Acceptance Test Cases help the Test Execution Team to test the application thoroughly. This also helps ensure that the UA Testing provides sufficient coverage of all the scenarios.
The Use Cases created during the Requirements definition phase may be used as inputs for creating Test Cases. The inputs from Business Analysts and Subject Matter Experts are also used for creating.

Each User Acceptance Test Case describes in a simple language the precise steps to be taken to test something.

The Business Analysts and the Project Team review the User Acceptance Test Cases.

Selecting a Team that would execute the (UAT) Test Cases:
Selecting a Team that would execute the UAT Test Cases is an important step.
The UAT Team is generally a good representation of the real world end users.
The Team thus comprises of the actual end users who will be using the application.

Executing Test Cases:
The Testing Team executes the Test Cases and may additional perform random Tests relevant to them

Documenting the Defects found during UAT:
The Team logs their comments and any defects or issues found during testing.

Resolving the issues/Bug Fixing:
The issues/defects found during Testing are discussed with the Project Team, Subject Matter Experts and Business Analysts. The issues are resolved as per the mutual consensus and to the satisfaction of the end users.

Sign Off:
Upon successful completion of the User Acceptance Testing and resolution of the issues the team generally indicates the acceptance of the application. This step is important in commercial software sales. Once the User “Accept” the Software delivered they indicate that the software meets their requirements.

The users now confident of the software solution delivered and the vendor can be paid for the same.

What are the key deliverables of User Acceptance Testing?

In the Traditional Software Development Lifecycle successful completion of User Acceptance Testing is a significant milestone.

The Key Deliverables typically of User Acceptance Testing Phase are:

1) The Test Plan- This outlines the Testing Strategy

2) The UAT Test cases – The Test cases help the team to effectively test the application

3) The Test Log – This is a log of all the test cases executed and the actual results.

4) User Sign Off – This indicates that the customer finds the product delivered to their satisfaction

Summary:

In this article we studied the process of ‘User Acceptance Testing’.

how to delete a user and all his posts / threads in vb?

how to delete a user and all his posts / threads in vb?

You have to delete the posts first:

Admin CP -> Threads & Posts -> Prune

if the user have more then 50 posts then use this sql

DELETE FROM post WHERE userid = 0;

But if you had deleted the user already.. and now their messages are shown as guest

Actually here is a workaround. Register a new account that that user’s old name. Then run this query:

UPDATE post SET userid='xxx' WHERE username='Old Name';

…with ‘xxx’ being the userid number of his new account and ‘Old Name’ being the username on his old account.

After that, you can delete that user’s posts before deleting the account again.

How to setup linksys VoIP with Linksys Wireless router

It toke me a long time but at the end it worked

Let’s start off with the most important step.

Make sure your ATA unit is connected directly to your Cable or DSL modem. Often people put the ATA unit’s behind a wireless router or other router and they have RTP issues or issues with connectivity. We are not saying that this will not work however make sure that ports 5060 and RTP ports are not blocked and the unit doesn’t disrupt the sound quality.

  1. Connect the power adapter, connect the Ethernet network, and then connect an analog telephone to one of the ports labeled PHONE 1 and 2
  2. Dial **** on your analog phone, enter 210# and hear the voice on the phone, It will give you an IP address.
  3. Write down the IP Address, open a Web Browser then enter the IP Address (for example, http://192.168.0.1) into the Address bar.
  4. Press Enter and the Info tab of the Linksys Telephone Configuration window displays.
  5. Click Admin Login and then Advance (Top Right corner), Click Voice (Top), click Line 1 to configure the SIP settings.
  6. -
  7. In the SIP Port field, enter 5060.
  8. In the Proxy field enter ——————–
  9. In the Register field, select yes.
  10. In the User ID field, enter the your VoIP phone number  ——————
  11. In the Password field, enter the password provided to you
  12. In the Use Auth ID field, select No.
  13. Also You will need to change the Dial Plan entry to what you get from you VoIP provider
  14. Click Submit all changes and the phone will be rebooted.
  15. Pick up the phone and you will have a dial tone.

In case you get a blank page when you go to step 3.  http://192.168.0.1

From the phone you can perform Factory Reset; Press 73738 then Press 1 to confirm.

Press * (star) to cancel.
The Phone Adapter will request confirmation; enter 1 to confirm. You will hear, “Option successful.”
Hang up the phone. The Phone Adapter will reboot, and all settings will be reset to their factory default settings.

Then continue with the next steps
