one dead two injured in shooting along caribbean parade in toronto

i was having fun and passing a nice time this year at Caribbean carnival – formerly caribana parade- it was 7:06 pm, everyone was packing his stuff and all the crowd was directed to one destination, the gates to the TTC or the main gates to the exhibition place, i was doing a call to my friend to schedule : whats next after caribana?

i heared a 1 gunshot , i was 50 meter away, nearly 25 ppl are also running to the same destination , the exit to the TTC. And 2 men was running and suddenly police was smart and knows where to run in the opposite way. 2 policemen was handling the case front of these 2 men , shouting to them to step down and to lay down and to put down the gun, it was like a football game, the boys refuses to obey, and one of them threw the gun on air behind the barriers to lay in the green grass. and the policemen started shooting on them

The scene was so fast it was 7:10 the result is: 2 men was on the floor , one dead and the other wounded. also a bystander was also injured

i took only 20 minutes video and some photos.

i was asking myself, why the men was insisting on running away he should be smart enough to know that the officers are everywhere and will never let him runways? why the officers shooted the boys on there body and not on the legs?

the place was packed with ppl . it was a public area

From my point of view as working in the media and this is the angle of my blog: MEDIAinTORONTO.blogspot.com

The after scene and how the officers was dealing with the case and specially the cameramen ppl since it was a great place during caribana for photographers, they deal with them on a very smart and polite way and never to block photos. and the stay away 20 meter from the scene .

i was looking in the night for the media coverage, if someone was twitting about this case i found now

@starradiobox  Did you see the shooting at the Caribbean Carnival parade Saturday and want to talk to the Toronto Star’s @liemvu about it? lvu@thestar.ca

@EmergencyNet CTV Edmonton @CTVCalgary @globeandmail @TorontoStar @TorontoPolice and @OfficerVella was twitting

hashtags to follow : #caribana  #caribana2011  #Toronto  #Police

and now i’m following the media websites

CBC

the star

the globe and mail

cp24.com

Finally,  hope the torontonians will keep the good memories from caribbean carnival 2011 and will forgot this scene.
